Boring but important

Privacy Policy

Plain-language version of what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. Last updated May 4, 2026.

We are the International Raging Grannies, a network of autonomous activist gaggles around the world. We run this website (raginggrannies.org), the song library, and a constellation of gaggle subsites. We are not a company. We have no product to sell you. We have nothing to gain from following you around the internet, and so we don't.

That said, the modern web makes some data collection unavoidable. This page tells you what we collect and why, as plainly as we can.

What we collect

Things you type into a form. If you use our Contact form, send a message via a gaggle's Contact page, or submit a song through our Submit page, we receive whatever you typed. Forms collect a name, an email address, and a message.

Server access logs. Like every website, our hosting provider records each request: IP address, browser, the URL you visited, the time. These logs exist for security and debugging.

WordPress cookies. The gaggle subsites run on WordPress. WordPress sets a few small cookies for things like keeping you logged in (if you're a granny with an admin account), remembering that you typed the password on a members-only page, or holding a draft comment. None of these are used for tracking.

Who else processes your data

We use a small number of trusted vendors to keep the site running. They process data on our behalf, never for their own marketing.

  • Cloudflare serves the site. They also keep the bot-management cookie that distinguishes humans from scrapers.
  • Mapbox draws the map on our Find a Gaggle page. When you load that page, Mapbox sees that you visited.
  • YouTube (Google) hosts video embeds on the Videos pages. We use the privacy-preserving embed (youtube-nocookie.com) so YouTube doesn't drop tracking cookies until you actually press play. Pressing play counts as visiting YouTube.
  • Nixihost hosts the WordPress installation that powers the gaggle subsites.

Cookies

We do not use advertising or marketing cookies. The cookies set on our site fall into two categories:

  • Strictly necessary: WordPress login session, members-only page access, Cloudflare bot management. These keep the site working. You cannot opt out without breaking the site for yourself.
  • Functional: cookies set by Mapbox when you load a map page, and by YouTube when you press play on a video. Both are set only after you choose to interact with that feature.

If you want to block all of these, your browser's privacy settings can. The site degrades gracefully: the map won't load, embedded videos won't play, but the rest works.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what data we hold about you,
  • correct anything that's wrong,
  • delete it,
  • send you a copy in a portable format.

Email webgranny@raginggrannies.org with a clear request and we'll get back to you within a reasonable time. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, especially deletion, so a stranger can't ask us to delete someone else's data.

Children

Our site is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has submitted a form here, email webgranny@raginggrannies.org and we'll delete the record.

When this changes

We update this page when our practices change, and bump the "Last updated" date at the top. Big changes will get an announcement on the front page.
