I worked all my days, and half the nights, too

opening doors, for all to come through

Now I wait and I wonder, how can I rest in grace?

Before my bones can settle, they’re filling my place.

The world’s topsy-turvy, words don’t mean a thing

No room for grieving, or remembering

I asked for no favors because of my sex

just that my brethren take their feet off our necks.

It was my last wish that my seat on the bench

would wait to be filled by a new president

I served to make fairer this world for us all

You must carry on, and live by love’s law

So let my bones settle; there’s no need for haste

Allow me some grace, before filling my place
