Local Elections

Tune: Rock-a-Bye Baby

Key: G, Starting note:E

Lyrics: Emily and Paula Miller

Piedmont Raging Grannies, October 1, 2025

Local elections may matter the most

They get less attention but it’s vital to vote

This little song may help you see why

Your vote really matters in the great by and by.

Affordable housing, drivable roads

Community safety, and enforcing codes

Funding firefighters, police, hospitals

These things are managed by local officials.

You’ve got city council, who make local rules

And county commissioners set tax rates for you

The mayor leads their meetings to keep folks in line

All of these jobs make great cities shine.

For each of these jobs your role’s most important

You hire them by voting so use your good judgment

If you want changes, downballot’s the place

To get it all started please vote in each race.

What we do locally goes to the top

Vote all down the ballot, there’s no need to stop

Show up for the midterms and all local races

It influences policies in bigger places.

Our country is built on the votes of each one

The state legislatures must represent us

We work from the bottom to climb the ladder

The smaller elections do really matter!
